Day 92: The Final Family Mile

Ninety-two days ago, on June 1st, your family walked out the door and did laps together. No equipment. No track. No complicated plan. Just one goal: show up. That was Day 1, and we ended that first post with a simple reminder: You started. That's the hardest part. 91 days to go.

And somehow... here we are. Tomorrow morning is the final one. Same loop. Same distance. Same people. Maybe there's a chalk finish line waiting on the driveway. Maybe there's tape ready to string between two chairs. Maybe grandparents, neighbors, or friends are coming to cheer. Everything your family has done this summer comes down to one final run tomorrow morning. And the best part? You already know exactly how to do it.

Tomorrow: The Same Loop

Tomorrow morning, you'll return to your Day 1 route and complete the same distance you started with:

  • 🟒 Little Movers: about ΒΌ mile

  • 🟑 Kid Movers: about Β½ mile

  • 🟠 Preteen Movers: 1 mile, timed

  • 🟣 Teen Movers: 1.5 miles, timed

  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Parents: match your child, at your child's pace (hold the stopwatch if they are to fast!)

Tomorrow's Workout: The Final Family Mile

Warm-Up

Give yourselves about 10 minutes: 3 minutes of easy jogging, 10 ankle hops, 10 walking lunges, 6 single-leg landings per leg, 20 seconds of quick feet, Then complete two short build-up runs at about 80% effort, finishing near your start line. And before anyone starts a watch... Stand there together for a second. Look at your starting line. Look at your family. Think about how different that same spot felt on June 1st. Ninety-two days of movement led back here.

The Run

You made the plan on Day 88. Tomorrow, run the plan.

  • The First Half: Hold Back

    • From the start line to the halfway landmark, stay controlled. It may feel too easy. Good. That's exactly how it should feel. Starting too fast is one of the easiest ways to make the end of a mile much harder than it needs to be. Be patient.

  • The Middle: Steady

    • Once you're past halfway, increase the effort just a little. Not a giant surge. Just more purposeful. Talking gets shorter. Arms stay strong. Eyes forward.

  • The Kick Point: GO

    • When you reach the landmark you chose on Day 88... It's time. Everything you have left goes toward that finish line. This is what Day 80 was for. And Day 79. And the hills. And the strides. And all those mornings when you practiced finishing strong.

  • The Finish: Five Steps Past

    • Do not slow down before the line. Run THROUGH it. Break the tape. Then keep running for five more steps before slowing down. Tomorrow, you don't just reach the finish line. You finish.

For our Little Movers and Kid Movers, there's only one rule: The whole family finishes together. Side by side. Through the tape. That's the picture you'll want.

After the Line

Walk. Breathe. Drink some water. Celebrate.

What's After Day 92?

Tomorrow we cross the Summer Movement Challenge finish line. But Runner2Runner was never created to help kids move for just one summer. Our goal is bigger: Help kids learn to love running, jumping, throwing, playing, and moving β€” without the pressure that too often gets added to youth sports. So when the Summer Movement Challenge ends, come keep moving with us.

Join a Runner2Runner Program

Runner2Runner programs give kids the opportunity to learn the basics of running and track & field in an age-appropriate,Fun First. Always. environment. We teach the fundamentals. We build confidence. We celebrate effort. And we want kids to leave practice excited to come back. Register Here

Don't Have Runner2Runner in Your Community?

Help us bring it there. Runner2Runner is growing, and we're looking for people who believe youth sports can teach great fundamentals without putting adult-level pressure on kids. You don't need to wait for a program to appear in your town. Reach out to us about starting a Runner2Runner program in your community. Because maybe Day 93 isn't another challenge. Maybe it's the first practice. The first season. The first group of kids in your community discovering that running can actually be fun. And maybe one summer of family movement becomes something much bigger. Fun First. Always.

One More Sleep. Tomorrow, you finish.
